Albuquerque man grows giant 1,000+ pound pumpkin

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – With fall in full swing, one Albuquerque man has taken pumpkins to a new level by growing a massive 1,010-pound gourd right in his city backyard.

“It was a lot of planning and a lot of just hoping for everything to go perfectly to pull this off. And I’m so happy that it worked out so well,” Allen Clark said about his giant pumpkin that he named “Gourdie.”

Clark first began by starting a seed at the beginning of April, and then he planted it in the ground on April 24. For the following months after that, he gave the pumpkin the care it needed—new soil, water, pesticides, shade, and even a fan—to grow into the giant it is today.

The Albuquerque native grew the giant pumpkin in the backyard of a rental home that he moved into earlier this year, and at first, he had a backyard that resembled a car part graveyard. Clark cleaned up the land, and about six months later, he was able to harvest his giant pumpkin…
