Sheriff’s office notes increase in illegal dumping after Helene, issues warning

YANCEY COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — The Yancey County Sheriff’s Office is cracking down on illegal dumping and said it has seen a “notable rise” in reports of illegal dumping in the county.

In a social media post, the sheriff’s office said, “The Yancey County Sheriff’s Office is reminding residents that illegal dumping is a criminal offense and can be prosecuted. Since the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, there has been a notable rise in reports of unauthorized dumping along rural roadsides, wooded areas and private properties.”
