In an operation dubbed “Operation Safe Scooter,” Boston police cracked down on illegal scooter activity in several neighborhoods last Wednesday. According to a report from the Boston Police Department, officers assigned to District D-4, covering South End, Back Bay, and Fenway, addressed community grievances by towing nine unregistered motorcycles
The action culminated when officers encountered a group of individuals with mopeds and motorcycles unlawfully parked in a private alley on Peterborough Street. Through their investigation, one Ivan Mateo-Perez, a 36-year-old from Dorchester, was identified as operating his vehicle without a license. When police informed him of the illegality of his actions, Mateo-Perez tried to escape by starting his motorcycle, but officers were able to prevent him from fleeing after a short struggle.
Mateo-Perez was arrested and faces several charges including “Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle,” “Failure to Stop for Police,” and “Resisting Arrest,” as noted on the police department’s website. His hearing will be in Roxbury District Court…
