KISS Rocker Gene Simmons Hospitalized After Malibu Car Crash

Malibu, CA – Rock legend Gene Simmons of KISS fame was hospitalized earlier this month following a car accident in Malibu. The incident, which occurred on October 7, 2025, raised concerns among fans, particularly given the musician’s previously disclosed heart condition.

Simmons, 76, was involved in the crash on Pacific Coast Highway just before 1 p.m. local time. Authorities were alerted after a witness reported the incident, which saw the “Rock and Roll All Nite” artist’s vehicle collide with a parked car.

According to his wife, Shannon Tweed, who spoke to NBC4 Los Angeles, Simmons’ car “careened” across multiple lanes of traffic before the impact. The iconic bassist was subsequently transported to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment.

Simmons Reports Fainting at the Wheel

The cause of the accident appears to stem from a medical episode. Simmons himself informed authorities that he either fainted or passed out while driving before hitting the parked vehicle, as reported by NBC4 Los Angeles. The specific reason for his loss of consciousness at the time remains unclear.

Battling Atrial Fibrillation

The incident brought renewed attention to Simmons’ health, as he lives with atrial fibrillation (AFib). This heart condition is characterized by an irregular or rapid heartbeat, known as an arrhythmia, which can increase the risk of blood clots, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Simmons openly discussed his experience with AFib during a March 2016 interview on The Doctors. He recounted an episode about a decade prior while on tour: “I started to get dizzy and perspire and short of breath.

So, I called a doctor, and he showed up and said, ‘OK, here’s what’s going on. There’s something called AFib,’ and he went down the list.

And it was a lot to take in.”

Recovering at Home

Fortunately, Simmons’ hospitalization was not long-term. As of the latest reports, the KISS star is no longer in the hospital and is currently recovering at his home, according to NBC4. Fans continue to send well wishes for his full and swift recovery.
