HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – Tiny homes in Henderson are closer to a reality.
A proposal was unveiled to the Henderson City Commission requesting the commission to consider amending a current zoning ordinance for tiny homes. The proposal was unanimously passed.
The proposal was brought forward in response to a woman who wanted to replace her dilapidated trailer with a tiny home, but prior to the amendment, this was not permitted.

Officials from Code Administrator Steve Davis’s office say Kentucky government officials have acknowledged an affordable housing shortage. Officials indicate the Kentucky Legislature is currently looking at the shortage, and is considering utilizing tiny homes to assist with the shortage.

Code administration staff wanted to clarify a tiny house counts as a single-family dwelling unit, that ranges from 120 to 800 square feet and is built on a permanent foundation. Officials want tiny homes to be subject to the same utility and permitting requirements as other single-family dwellings. The proposed zoning updates include allowing tiny homes in Planned Unit Development Districts, Manufactured Home Districts and Residential Subdivided Manufactured Home Districts.
