PENSACOLA, Fla. (WKRG) — A celebration was held at Ascension Sacred Heart Pensacola on Wednesday morning after the hospital recently became the first Level 1 Trauma Center in Northwest Florida.

Level I trauma centers offer nearly every surgical and medical specialty at all times. Sacred Heart Pensacola’s ER is equipped to provide comprehensive care for all injury-related needs across all ages.

Trauma Medical Director Meredith Shaddix said when she came to the Sacred Heart team two years ago, she knew she wanted to push for the hospital to become a Level 1 trauma center.
“When I first came to Pensacola, I didn’t know a lot about this community or the program,” Shaddix said. “When I showed up here, I’m like, ‘Hey, we have all the resources that we need,’ and so we spent years kind of building our program, growing our team.”
