Taylor Swift Welcomes ‘Chaos’ Around New Album, Says All Talk Helps
Pop superstar Taylor Swift is making headlines once again, not just for her record-breaking new album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” but for her candid take on the public’s reaction—both positive and negative. In a recent interview, Swift stated that any discussion surrounding her latest release, good or bad, ultimately benefits her during its crucial first week.
Released last Friday, “The Life of a Showgirl” quickly became Spotify’s most-streamed album in a single day this year. However, the album has also faced a mixed reception, with some fans, affectionately known as “Swifties,” taking to social media to express disappointment with the lyricism compared to her previous works.
Addressing the varied feedback during an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, Swift embraced the discourse. “I welcome the chaos,” she told Lowe. “The rule of show business is, if it’s the first week of my album release and you are saying either my name or my album title, you’re helping.”
Swift emphasized her respect for diverse perspectives on art. “I have a lot of respect for people’s subjective opinions on art.
I’m not the art police,” she added. “It’s like, everybody is allowed to feel exactly how they want.”
The artist also shared that her legacy is a driving force behind her music. “We’re doing this thing for keeps,” she explained.
“Like, I have such an eye on legacy when I’m making my music. I know what I made.
I know I adore it.” She expressed pride in the melodies and lyrics of “The Life of a Showgirl,” noting that the songs don’t always fall into the “sad” and “cathartic” categories she’s often associated with.
“The Life of a Showgirl” has been released in an impressive array of over two dozen configurations, including various CDs, vinyls, and cassettes. As of Tuesday, reports indicate the album has sold 3.2 million equivalent album units in the US since its launch.
This album release comes on the heels of another significant personal announcement for Swift: her engagement to NFL player Travis Kelce, her boyfriend of two years. Swift shared the news in August with a joint Instagram post, playfully captioning it, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” which has since garnered millions of likes.
