Fort Sam employee suspected of embezzling even larger sum from Army program

The Army civilian employee charged in an alleged embezzlement scheme is suspected of misappropriating even more money than what was revealed in a criminal complaint last week.

The investigation into Laurent Lant, 55, chief of banking, investments and insurance for the Installation Management Command at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston, has “so far” determined that he’s bilked the Army of $860,000, a special agent with the Defense Criminal Investigative Service testified during a Wednesday court hearing.
