ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10)– The Albany Fire Department responded to a heavy fire on Livingston Avenue in Albany on Thursday morning. According to Fire Battalion Chief Geo Henderson, the fire, at 510 Livingston Avenue, was first reported at 7:47 a.m.

Henderson said when crews arrived, they were met with a heavy, advanced fire coming out of the roof of the two-story wood-framed home. He said the fire was primarily in the second floor but spread to the attic.
Crews said they attacked the fire from multiple angles, including using the bucket to attack it from above, without stepping onto the unsafe roof. Albany Fire Chief Joseph Gregory said the fire was under control at 8:13 a.m. As of 8:49 a.m., crews were working to search the home and reach possible owners.
Henderson said they were hopeful that the house was vacant at the time of the fire. Gregory confirmed the house was unoccupied.
According to Henderson, an investigation is underway into what caused the fire. Then it will be up to investigators and code enforcement to determine if the home will need to be demolished or not. Demolition started before noon…
