Bakersfield firearms dealer sentenced for gun trafficking

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A Bakersfield firearms dealer who illegally sold hundreds of guns, many of which were later connected to crimes, was sentenced this week to 53 months in federal prison, according to court records.

Joshua Ruic Kimball, through Show Off Sports LLC, sold more than 1,400 firearms illegally from at least 2021 until his arrest in 2023, federal prosecutors said. He pleaded guilty to firearms trafficking.

Kimball didn’t require background checks, registration or paperwork for the sales. More than 140 weapons sold by him were later recovered at crime scenes throughout California and in other states.

“Many of those crimes involved significant violence, including a firearm recovered from a murder victim during a drug transaction, a firearm recovered from a shootout in the street which left four victims, and a firearm that was used to shoot into a residence,” prosecutors said in a sentencing memorandum. “Most tragically, one firearm trafficked by the defendant appears to have been the sole reason for a high-speed pursuit where an innocent bystander was killed saving a 4-year-old child.”…
