South Columbus restaurant hidden by trees makes plea to city

For 29 years, Vallarta Mexican Restaurant has been a hidden gem in South Columbus. The problem says the owners is the business is literally hidden by overgrown trees along Fort Benning Road. So, they took to Facebook with a public plea for help from the city.

According to the post on social media the restaurant has weathered a lot over the years, “from rising food costs to changing times, market crashes, and Covid yet we’ve always done our best to keep serving fresh food at fair prices.

One issue that’s really hurt us lately is something simple but out of our hands: the overgrown trees along Fort Benning Road that completely block our restaurant and sign from view. Despite reaching out to the appropriate city departments and even emailing city council members, we’ve received no response and no action. We actually attempted to trim them ourselves and they responded with a citation and court summons!

We love our city and take pride in keeping our property clean and inviting. All we’re asking for is visibility again. A simple trimming would go a long way toward helping a small, local business continue to survive in these challenging times…
