Lancaster man whose controversial traffic stop led to police chief’s firing faces new charges in similar alleged incident

The Lancaster man whose controversial traffic stop in April earlier this year led to the firing of Manheim Township Police Chief Duane Fisher is once again facing charges, this time for allegedly fleeing from a police officer and evading arrest in another incident on Fruitville Pike.

Benny Peña-Rivera, 25, was charged by Manheim Township Police on Sept. 23, though the police department only announced the charges on Tuesday. The latest alleged incident occurred on Sept. 17, near Peña-Rivera’s workplace on the 1500 block of Fruitville Pike, police said.

According to police, an officer observed a driver, later identified as Peña-Rivera, operating a black motorcycle in the area of 100 Keller Ave. The officer noted the motorcycle did not have a license plate and saw it make a right turn onto Orchard St. without signaling…
