Rochester men charged with weapon, forgery crimes in check fraud investigation

ROCHESTER — The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Economic Crimes Unit conducted two search warrants Oct. 2, one on Union Square in Chili and the other on Sherman Street.

The search warrants were a result of an ongoing investigation into checks that were stolen and forged before they were cashed at a local bank, resulting in a loss of $2,740.

Collectively between both locations, investigators seized one illegal Springfield 9mm handgun with an extended 16-round magazine, evidence and items used to “make” and “wash” checks, and numerous “new in the box” retail items that are likely stolen from local retail outlets…
