The 2024 closing of Cabrini University in Radnor will soon bring the larger-than-life bronze statue of world kickboxing championship Fredia “The Cheetah” Gibbs to its permanent home in front of Chester City Hall, 1 E. 4th St., as this is the city that shaped her life.
“I’m led to believe the original intent for the statue was to be placed in Chester,” said Mayor Stefan Roots. “The entire city is thrilled that she’s coming home for good.”
Created by sculptor Jennifer Frudakis-Petry, the statue of Gibbs was donated to Cabrini, her alma mater, by the Sports Legends of Delaware County Museum (SLDCM). It was dedicated in September 2022 at the Reflection Pond on Cabrini’s campus, where many students, faculty, staff, alums, potential students, and guests could see it and perhaps learn about the marks Gibbs left in boxing, basketball, track, martial arts, and other areas of life…
