COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) —Look up to the sky, the Orionids have arrived! One of the best meteor showers of the year, behind the Perseids, will peak later this month and weather permitting you’ll have the chance to view them.
The Orionid meteors are known for their long glowing tails that appear in the night sky as the Earth passes through left over debris from Halley’s Comet. Meteors associated with the shower will be streaking away from the radiant that is located near the constellation Orion, this’ll be visible above the southeaster horizon during the early morning starting in mid-October.
On average you can see between 10-20 meteors per hour, in some years you may be able to see 50-70 meteors per hour…
