Sevier Avenue parking project adds nearly 80 new spots beneath James White Parkway

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A new Sevier Avenue parking project is upgrading the lot on Island Home Avenue beneath James White Parkway. The parking lot is next to Printshop Beer and Mighty Mud, and less than one mile from the Sevier Avenue business district.

“This is a hugely important project to the Sevier Avenue merchants,” Eric Vreeland, Deputy Communications Director with the city of Knoxville, said. “This is a major upgrade. It maximizes the available parking.”

For decades, the gravel lot was unmarked, rutted, and unlit. The lot wasn’t used efficiently, and fewer motorists used it, according to Vreeland. This new lot will be well-lit, including a crosswalk to a continuous sidewalk on the north side of Island Home Avenue…
