New Yorker taken to hospital by ambulance after crashing golf cart in The Villages

A New Yorker blamed “travel-related stress” after crashing a golf cart in The Villages.

Joseph Anthony Fasano, 62, of Franklin Square, N.Y., was driving a red 2021 Yamaha golf cart at about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the vicinity of Buena Vista Boulevard and Bailey Trail, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. The initial report to 911 indicated that “multiple occupants had been ejected from the vehicle.” The Villages Public Safety Department arrived on the scene and began treating the injured.

Fasano had suffered abrasions on his hands, feet, knees and head. EMS personnel determined he needed treatment at a nearby hospital and he was transported from the scene by an ambulance.

When he was interviewed in his bed at the hospital, where he was wearing a cervical collar, Fasano admitted he had been driving the golf cart. He claimed it “began to shake,” causing him to hit a curb and crash. He complained of “fatigue and travel-related stress,” but denied he had consumed any alcohol. The deputy who interviewed Fasano noticed the smell of alcohol in the hospital room. In addition, Fasano’s speech was slurred and his eyes appeared to be bloodshot…
