Prosecutor investigates Jay Jones’ community service after reckless driving conviction

The New Kent County Commonwealth’s Attorney is looking into how Virginia Democratic attorney general candidate Jay Jones cleared his 1,000 hours of court-ordered community service after a reckless driving conviction in 2022.

This week, 7News reported exclusively that people caught driving even slower than Jones in New Kent County got jail time and had their licenses suspended, but not Jones. Jones paid a fine and got community service hours.

After being convicted of reckless driving in New Kent County a few years ago, Jones was required to complete 1,000 hours of community service. Court records show Jones presented two letters to the court certifying he had completed 500 hours of service at the NAACP and another 500 hours at an organization called “Meet our Moment”…
