The city of Madison is spending over $100,000 repairing bus rapid transit lanes on a west side street — the second such road to need reconstruction a little over a year after the lanes were installed.
Whitney Way is the latest road undergoing repairs after the city completed a similar project over the summer on Wright Street near the Dane County Regional Airport. Construction crews stripped Whitney Way’s bus lanes down to their gravel base in both directions, from about South Hill Drive to Regent Street, over the past few weeks.
Bill Tishler, the City Council alder for District 11 where the construction is taking place, told the Cap Times the damage was caused by the weight of the city’s new buses. Tishler described the repairs as a “more complete patch job.”…
