Woodburn DUII enforcement officer program to continue a second year

The Woodburn Police Department plans to continue its dedicated DUII enforcement officer position for a second year, pending renewal of a state traffic safety grant.

At a Sept. 22 city council meeting, the council approved the extension of the program as long as the police department continues to receive funding from the Oregon Department of Transportation’s Transportation Safety Office.

“We do want to continue this grant because it’s been very effective for us. I’ve talked about these numbers before, but we’ve seen a 36% increase in DUI arrests,” Police Chief Jason Millican said at the meeting. “That alone in my mind is worth it.”…
