The stretch of Dickerson Pike where a woman was struck and killed by a WeGo Bus last week was identified by Metro last year for pedestrian safety improvements that have still not been implemented.
Patricia Owens, 64, and Jeffery Holley, 65, were crossing Dickerson Pike near the Ewing Drive intersection around 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 1 when the collision occurred. Police said the bus was traveling north and the driver swerved in an attempt to miss them. Owens was struck by the bus, while the man crossing with her — 65-year-old Jeffery Holley — was hit by the bus’s side mirror and suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The area where the two were attempting to cross was one of eight locations included in a spring 2024 proposal from the Nashville Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure for a bus stop safety crossing pilot program. The plan for the nearby stop 765 called for two pedestrian islands formed by small yellow flex posts in the turn lane, as well as other posts blocking one side of a portion of the turn lane to reduce the areas where cars could pull out into it. However, 18 months later, those plans have yet to come to fruition…
