Company accused of preying on aspiring Black business owners will close or face $2M fine

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A West Charlotte storefront that once symbolized hope for a Haitian immigrant now sits dark, locked, and empty. The shell of what once was The Queens Beauty Supply and Fragrances is now a symbol of Marjorie Stewartson’s shattered dream.

“I still can’t believe it happened to me,” Stewartson told WCNC Charlotte on Friday. “It’s just like I’m in a nightmare. It’s like you’re dreaming and you try to wake up.”

Stewartson is one of dozens of entrepreneurs across the country who have accused Beauty Supply Institute, a company that marketed itself as a launchpad for Black business owners, of failing to live up to promises, leaving some broke and businesses closed…
