Atlanta, GA – September was one of the driest months of the year across Georgia, with rainfall falling well below normal levels, according to the National Weather Service office in Peachtree City. Meteorologists reported that precipitation totals ranged from just half an inch to more than 3 inches below average across the state’s main climate monitoring sites.
According to the agency, rainfall over the past 30 days has been scarce, with most areas receiving less than 50% of typical levels for this time of year. The deficit has led to worsening drought conditions, particularly in north and central Georgia.
In Atlanta, rainfall was 3.66 inches below normal, while Macon saw a deficit of 3.27 inches. Athens and Columbus also reported shortfalls of 0.46 and 0.76 inches, respectively.
