On October 10, 2025, 47-year-old William McGhin, an employee at the Columbia County Detention Center, was arrested by the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office Drug Task Force for attempting to bring illegal drugs into the facility.
The investigation began after jail staff received information suggesting McGhin was introducing narcotics into the detention center and distributing them to inmates. During the probe, a CCSO K-9 alerted to narcotics in McGhin’s vehicle, which was parked in the detention center lot. Detectives found a substance testing positive for methamphetamine in the vehicle, as well as additional methamphetamine in McGhin’s personal lunch box that he intended to bring inside.
