North Omaha neighborhood loses grocery store as food desert concerns grow

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – The Hy-Vee store in North Omaha’s Florence Neighborhood closed its doors Oct. 13, surprising longtime customers who received no advance warning.

The closure leaves only one full-service grocery store to serve four area neighborhoods.

This comes as alcohol retailers, cannabis and kratom shops, and adult stores continue to operate along North 30th Street. Even a recently opened healthy food convenience store prominently displays alcohol in its front window…
