WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Sedgwick County Treasurer Brandi Baily says that Kansas’s customized license plates are the main reason for the tag office’s recent long wait times. State law requires them to be renewed at a certain time, and the treasurer is calling on legislators to change the law.
“From this time last year, we’ve seen over a 400% increase in foot traffic in just strictly personalized plate transactions. And so because that has to be done every five years, it requires the customers to have to come into the office to get that done,” Baily said.
She also says the state law regarding personalized license plates is a relic of the 1970s and needs to be changed immediately.
