Pinellas County Traffic Alert: FDOT Announces Week-Long Lane Closures Oct 12-18

PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. – Drivers throughout Pinellas County should prepare for significant travel delays as the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District 7 schedules numerous lane closures across the county’s major arteries for the week of October 12 through October 18, 2025.

The closures affect both interstates and major state roads, with most highway work scheduled overnight and arterial road work continuing during daytime business hours. FDOT advises all commuters to check travel apps and plan extra time, especially on I-275, I-175, and US 19.

Interstate and Express Lane Impacts

Construction activity will heavily impact I-275 and its adjacent facilities, with a focus on southbound traffic:

  • I-275 Southbound Closure: Motorists should expect lane closures on southbound I-275 between 38th Avenue North and 4th Street North. This work is scheduled nightly from 8:30 p.m. to 6 a.m., Sunday, October 12, through Friday, October 17.
  • I-275 Express Lane Closed: The southbound Express Lane from 4th Street North to south of Gandy Boulevard will be completely shut down for one night from 9:30 p.m. Sunday, October 12, to 5:30 a.m. Monday, October 13.
  • I-175 Night Work: Lane closures are set for I-175 from 16th Street South to 4th Street South from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., Sunday, October 12, through Thursday, October 16.
  • Ramp Flagging Operations: Drivers accessing or exiting I-275 at 38th Avenue N (Exit 25), 54th Avenue N (Exits 26, 26A, 26B), and Gandy Boulevard (Exit 28) should be aware of periodic, very brief flagging operations during the day, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday, October 13, through Friday, October 17.

Key Arterial Road Closures

Several major state roads and alternate routes will also face lane closures, primarily for repaving and long-term improvements:

Nighttime Work (Sunday – Thursday)

  • US 19: Two major sections of US 19 will have lane closures from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.:
  • From SR 580 (Main Street) to SR 586 (Curlew Road).
  • From Drew Street to Sunset Point Road.
  • ALT US 19 (Tyrone Boulevard): Lane closures will be in effect from 5th Ave N to 38th Ave N from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Daytime Work (Monday – Friday)

  • SR 686 (East Bay Drive): Lane closures from west of US 19 to Belcher Road are scheduled from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • SR 586 (Curlew Road): The middle eastbound lane will be closed from McMullen Booth Road to Tampa Road between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m.
  • ALT US 19 (North Pinellas): Daytime closures will affect two areas:
  • From Meres Boulevard to Tampa Road (7 a.m. to 7 p.m.).
  • At the Anclote Road/Coquina Drive intersection (8 a.m. to 6 p.m.).
