Fire guts abandoned Columbia apartment building early Saturday morning

COLUMBIA, S.C. — A fire at an abandoned apartment building has been extinguished after erupting early Saturday morning, Columbia-Richland Fire officials said.

The department said third-shift crews arrived at the 1700 block of Washington Street around 1 a.m. and began moving through the building, and additional crews attacked the fire from above.

Firefighters were able to get the fire under control, but said that all 10 units in the building were damaged. However, no injuries were reported…
