Santa Rosa Teen Charged with Making Criminal Threats After Alleged Bomb Joke Goes Awry

This past week, an 18-year-old Santa Rosa teen found themselves on the wrong side of a joke. Following a social media bomb threat that targeted a school outside Sonoma County, authorities swiftly moved to investigate the case, leading to the individual’s arrest. After receiving a report on Tuesday at 11:36 PM, Sonoma County deputies were able to track the origin of the threat back to the county’s own territory.

Identified as Ryan Sweeney by the Sonoma Sheriff’s Office, the teen told deputies the post was intended as a jest. Despite the claimed humor, law enforcement took the threat seriously, especially given the current climate of heightened school security concerns.
