Brush, slide, kick-step-turn. As the low beat of the bass rattles the stage and the guitarist strums his electric six-string, dancers fasten their cowboy boots and begin to shuffle their feet to the upbeat country rhythm. Laughter echoes throughout the dimmed ballroom, the energy almost palpable. From “Fireman Street” to “Fishing in the Dark,” there’s a western song and corresponding line dance for almost everybody at this local event center.
Every Sunday night, at Lincoln’s Pla Mor Ballroom, from 7-11 p.m., for eight dollars per entry, students and adults can enjoy an evening filled with live country music and fast-paced dancing. Each week, two different bands perform; some of the music groups that rotate through include Vintage Country, the Silver Moon Band and Stolen Limits.
Since its grand opening in 1929, Pla Mor has remained one of the largest ballrooms in the country, and is often used as a venue for concerts and weddings. However, country nights may just be Pla Mor’s most appealing event. With its massive wooden floors, soft yellow lighting and cozy booths lining the walls, this ballroom provides a great environment for attendees to either dance the night away, or sit-back and enjoy a fun evening with friends.
