PETERSBURG, Texas — The Petersburg Co-Op Gin unveiled a major upgrade with the official launch of their roller gin. The roller gin took a gentler more precise approach. Specifically designed to handle extra-long staple cotton, allowing the lint to glide smoothly over a roller, while the seed cleanly separates and pops out.
Myles Ramsey with the Co-op explained how the typical saw gin was different.
“On a traditional saw gin or upland cotton, you actually get saw blades that are pulling that lint off the seed,” Ramsey said. “If you gin them with a regular saw, it can damage that fiber length.”
