Avoca man charged with attempted murder following alleged standoff

AVOCA, Iowa — An Avoca man was arrested and charged with several felonies, including attempted murder, following an alleged standoff with authorities Thursday evening.

According to the Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were alerted of a person injured during a shooting in Avoca around 8:12 p.m. Authorities say deputies arrived on scene and located the victim who had suffered minor injuries from a gunshot.

Deputies determined the shooting had occurred at a residence west of Avoca and that the suspect was believed to still be in the home. PCSO says deputies were also told that more gunfire had been reported from the residence and that minor children were still in the home.

PCSO deputies, along with Pottawattamie County Emergency Response Team and Negotiators, responded to the residence. During this time deputies reported hearing more gunfire coming from the home. Authorities located the male subject, along with the children, still inside the home…
