A pedestrian was struck and killed by a train in Sandwich Thursday night, according to the Sandwich Police Department. The incident was reported at the railroad crossing at Center and N. Latham Streets at approximately 8:57 p.m.
Officers arrived at the scene and found the pedestrian near the railroad tracks. They were pronounced dead at the scene. According to an initial investigation, the pedestrian was struck by an Amtrak passenger train heading eastbound. Sandwich police received assistance at the scene from multiple agencies including the Sandwich Fire Department, Sandwich Emergency Management Agency, Amtrak Police, and the DeKalb County Coroner’s Office.
