SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) -On Saturday, Kidz-N-Coats will be hosting its annual coat giveaway at Falls Park. The nonprofit organization has distributed thousands of coats throughout the community since it began in 2009, all thanks to one act of kindness.
“Charlie and Djuana’s son at the time, who was about nine years old, gave his coat to a friend at school and came home without his coat, and they questioned him. ‘Where’d your coat go?’ He said, ‘I gave it to a friend who didn’t have one.’ And so that year, they went to that school specifically and got some coats for kids, and just locally, they bought them, and as it’s grown, we’ve done more and more fundraising to be able to make it what it is today. It’s just grown a little bit every year, but it’s definitely started with a little boy that had a giving heart, and we just took it and ran with it, and it’s been great,” said Teresa Blauwet, Kidz-N-Coats Giveaway Coordinator.
What it has grown into is 1,400 coats that will be distributed Saturday from 4:00 to 6:30 at the Falls Park Farmers Market, no signup needed…
