Explore Autumn Splendor: Reno’s Fall Tree Walk at Virginia Lake Park with Local Experts

As Reno’s foliage starts to flaunt its autumnal hues, the public has a chance to join a celebratory stroll amongst Virginia Lake Park’s trees. Set for October 19, local tree aficionado Rod Haulenbeek will team up with Ward 2 Councilmember Naomi Duerr to guide a Fall Tree Walk. According to a press release from the City of Reno, this educational outing will kick off at 11 a.m. with attendees asked to gather at the north parking lot at Lymbery Street and Lakeside Drive.

During the event, participants can expect to saunter around the lake while Haulenbeek introduces them to the variety of tree species inhabiting the park, unraveling the stories behind their seasonal transitions, and explaining the significant roles these quiet giants fulfill within our city’s environment. “I’m delighted to invite everyone in our community to join us at Virginia Lake Park for a special opportunity to learn about our incredible trees with arborist Haulenbeek,” Duerr expressed in the City of Reno release. The park itself is steeped in history, having been forged between 1938 and 1939 amidst the economic recovery efforts of the Great Depression.
