Second annual ‘Tails on Trails: Hike to Save Pets’ raises money for vet bills

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – A fundraiser for emergency veterinary bills is back for its second year. Tails on Trails: Hike to Save Pets was founded by Scott Colby, honoring the legacy of his two cats Nomar and Mia.

It’s happening Saturday, Oct. 25 from 8:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Baker Creek Preserve. In addition to a Memorial Walk honoring lost pets, there will be an optional hike, live music, a vendor market, food trucks and adoptable pets. “Golden Paw” awards will be given to local veterinarians and animal advocates as well.

This year, the event is working to raise $25,000 for the Nomar and Mia Compassion Fund through the University of Tennessee Veterinary Department. The fund supports low-income cat owners in need of assistance during emergency medical situations for their pet.

When WVLT spoke with Colby about the mission of this fundraiser, he said after his experience losing Nomar and Mia, he never wanted someone to have make the choice between their pet’s life or a vet bill…
