New Orleans homicide and murder-suicide rates spike sharply

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Just in the past ten weeks, New Orleans has seen a total of 33 homicides, and of those, a concerning six were murder-suicide cases.

“There has been a lot of emotional stress lately,” New Orleans Police Department Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick said.

Metropolitan Crime Commission Vice President Michelle Foster said these trends are concerning, pointing out how it’s been quite some time since we have seen a violent streak like this.

“We can’t remember a stretch that that we’ve had this bad where we’ve had this, you know, that type of number. Obviously the chief pointing out shows that there’s concern by the police department as what is occurring in the community,” Foster said…
