OKC Motorists Brace for Traffic Disruptions as Roadwork Projects Sweep the City

Heads up, OKC drivers—multiple roadwork projects are set to disrupt traffic across the city, with lane closures and detours impacting travel for several months. According to a recent Oklahoma Department of Transportation advisory, construction work ranging from resurfacing to roundabout construction will narrow major highways and streets, potentially leading to slower commutes and increased congestion.

Notable projects include US-77/Tecumseh Rd. near Flood Ave. in Norman undergoing narrowing to one lane between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m., and similar intermittent lane closures occurring on US-77 between Classen Blvd. and Main St. through early November. The I-40 is also in for a long haul with lanes narrowed through 2025, and sections between I-240 and Town Center Dr. in Midwest City particularly affected, lacking shoulders or merge distances.
