Wet weather to settle in for the weekend

Cloudier conditions settled in for this morning across Albuquerque and the state. Temperatures this afternoon have risen into the low 70s and upper 60s across the metro area. Today, scattered showers and storms are expected off to northwest New Mexico and southwest Colorado. Overnight and into this morning Farmington picked up .61 inches of rainfall, while Durango saw half in an inch so far. The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for Montezuma, La Plata, San Juan counties and parts of McKinley. The Flood Watch in Northwest New Mexico is set to expire tomorrow at 6 p.m. while southwest Colorado’s will be in place until 6 a.m. Sunday.

The surge of moisture on Friday is coming from Tropical Storm Priscilla, while another tropical storm, Raymond, is expected to supply sufficient moisture for showers and thunderstorms throughout the weekend and into early next week. Balloon Fiesta may be impacted by the wet weather on Saturday night and Sunday morning. Breezier winds aloft may pose an issue for tomorrow morning’s mass ascension along the chance for rain.

Temperatures next week are expected to take a dip as backdoor cold front slides through on Monday bringing cooler temperatures to New Mexico along with additional shower and storm chances. As of right now, drier conditions will swing back around mid to late week for New Mexico and southern Colorado. Have a Friday and weekend!…
