The electric vehicle (EV) showcase at The Market at Pepper Place in Birmingham celebrated National Drive Electric Month, drawing EV enthusiasts and curious onlookers alike. Jacob Isdell, an Irondale resident, displayed his Hyundai Ioniq 5, sharing his positive experience since purchasing the vehicle in June. “I know a lot of people don’t think about affordability when they think about an EV, but it’s just cheaper,” Isdell said. “It’s cheaper than gas.”
The event featured a wide range of EVs, including SUVs and full-sized pickup trucks, with owners discussing the benefits of EVs, such as cost savings on fuel and maintenance. Isdell highlighted the power of electric motors, noting, “The electric motors have the same torque whether you’re going 20 miles-per-hour or 70 miles-per-hour.”
Michael Staley, president of the Alabama Clean Fuels Coalition, emphasized the importance of such showcases in dispelling myths about EVs. “There are so many myths about EVs, and I have seen so many myths busted in these conversations,” Staley said.
