The Alabama Budget has allotted $166,667 for the Scottsboro Boys Museum, which commemorates the legacy of nine young African Americans who are recognized as symbols of the injustice of the South.
Located in historic Joyce Chapel, The Scottsboro Boys Museum was founded in 2010 by local activist Shelia Washington. After reopening in 2022 after renovations, the museum was named the top attraction by the North Alabama Mountain Lakes Tourist Association. Last year the museum received visitors from 42 states and 31 countries.
The money was awarded as part of the local civil rights attraction item, which coincides with the museum’s goal to recognize the positive actions of those of all colors, creeds, and origins who have taken a stand against the tyranny of racial oppression…
