Protestors Blast Brewer for Pulling Support for Daylighting Bill

As car horns honked and bikes whirred down Columbus Avenue on Oct. 10, a small crowd assembled outside Upper West Side councilmember Gale Brewer’s office.

A dozen protestors and a handful of organizers from Families for Safe Streets railed against Brewer’s recent decision to rescind her support from a proposed law mandating “daylighting” on street corners.

“Daylighting” is the practice of prohibiting parking near crosswalks, which creates better visibility at intersections. It is currently the law in 40 states across the US, including New York State. New York City has been historically exempted…
