City officials try to allay data center fears

Yukon city leaders are endeavoring to allay fears from citizens that a proposed data center project on Yukon’s west side will place a strain on city utility systems.

Those fears are being “generated” because data centers use a large amount of water and electricity to operate.

City Manager Jeff Deckard acknowledged the impact data centers have on communities has become a controversial topic.

“We understand that,” Deckard said this week. “We take that into consideration every time we make a decision about it. You have our word. We’re not going to put the city of Yukon in jeopardy of losing potable water or rates going up.”…
