MDOT Announces $33.3 Million Bridge Improvement Project in Genesee and Shiawassee Counties; Lane Closures Begin October 15

Starting October 15, the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is rolling out lane closures on I-69 as a precursor to a hefty $33.3 million bridge improvement project stretching from I-75 to Morrish Road in Genesee County, including two additional bridges near Sheridan Road in Shiawassee County. According to MDOT’s announcement, this initiative is set to revamp 15 structures with overlays, steel repairs, and other much-needed enhancements.

The investment is not just about structural improvements; it’s anticipated to be a boon for the local workforce too. Based on economic models, MDOT projects that the upcoming bridge work could directly and indirectly support some 318 jobs. Keep in mind, this isn’t a quick fix. The entire project is slated for completion by October 2027, with the initial bridge work scheduled to kick off in March 2026.
