MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Halloween is just around the corner, and we want to give you a First Alert to all the fun events around the Grand Strand and Pee Dee.
But before we get into that, take a look at some of these safety tips WMBF News has gathered over the years:
- Have a responsible adult accompany the children
- Use makeup instead of masks to improve vision
- Always be aware of your surroundings
- Carry a flashlight and even glow bracelets for kids
- If you’re wearing dark costumes, it will be harder for others to see you at night. Parents can get as creative as they want by adding reflective tape or glow sticks to their children’s costumes.
- You also want to make sure your costume is flame-resistant and fits correctly to avoid any injuries
- Only visiting homes with the porch light on
- Inspecting candy, make sure there are no open wrappers or anything that looks off or defective
- Eat only factory-wrapped treats, homemade goods
- Limit the amount of treats you eat
- Crossing streets at intersections with crosswalks
- Stick to using fake electronic candles in pumpkins, especially on your steps, where children will be walking. It can help to prevent fires.
- Never accept rides from strangers.
- Homeowners should expect to see trick-or-treaters as soon as school lets out
- Drivers should slow down and be patient
