High school students from Providence School are giving their time and talents to support children at the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Barbara. As part of a new service initiative, Providence students volunteer several afternoons each week to tutor elementary-aged students in reading, writing and math.
The program, coordinated by Providence faculty member Brittany Newman, pairs Providence high students with Boys & Girls Club members in grades one-six. Each volunteer commits to at least one session per month, with many choosing to serve more frequently.
“This is such a valuable opportunity for our students to not only share what they’ve learned but also to invest in younger kids right here in our community,” said Newman. “It’s a beautiful way to live out our mission of inspiring young minds to lead and serve.”
Students also see the impact firsthand. “I love being able to help a younger student understand something that used to be hard for me,” said one volunteer. “It’s fun to encourage them and see them feel proud of themselves.”…
