MEN’S GOLF FINISHES FIFTH; BENBROOK TIES FOR FIFTH AT PACIFIC INVITATIONAL

STOCKTON, Calif. — The Sacramento State men’s golf team finished in fifth place at the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational on Saturday at The Reserve. The Hornets shot 277 to finish 1-under par in the third round and were 8-under par for the tournament. The team was led by Max Thomas’ 67 during the day and received a top-10 finish from Mason Benbrook who tied for fifth overall.

Thomas made the biggest move on the team, rising 23 spots on the scoreboard to finish tied for 17th. The sophomore had five birdies without a bogey during his round and matched his second-lowest as a Hornet. Thomas was 2-under on front nine with birdies on the par-4 third and par-5 sixth. On the back nine, he birdied Nos. 11, 14 and 16. His three-round score of 73-72-67-212 left him 4-under par.

Benbrook shot 72 in the final round and earned his first collegiate top five finish. The senior was even through the front nine with one birdie and one bogey. He was able to post three birdies over the final nine holes but matched those with a bogey and a double bogey. Benbrook finished five strokes behind…
