St. Michael the Archangel Parish in Toledo to close after 125 years

TOLEDO, Ohio — After more than a century of service, St. Michael the Archangel Parish in Toledo will close in early 2026, with its final Mass set for Sunday, Jan. 4. The parish will be merged with Saint John the Baptist Parish in Point Place under a formal decree issued by Bishop Daniel E. Thomas of the Diocese of Toledo.

The closure comes following a period of consultation between parish leadership, diocesan officials and parishioners. The decision was driven by declining membership, low Mass attendance, limited active ministries, reduced sacramental celebrations and ongoing financial challenges.

“We know this is a deeply emotional decision for many who have long called St. Michael their parish,” Bishop Thomas said. “We are grateful for the 125 years of Catholic faith and legacy of this community, and we trust in God’s providence as the parishioners of St. Michael find a new spiritual home at Saint John the Baptist Parish, Point Place.”…
