86 Arrests, Significant Drug and Cash Seizures in Jefferson County’s ‘Operation Guardian Sweep’

JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL – A major law enforcement initiative called “Operation Guardian Sweep” has led to 86 arrests, the seizure of drugs, weapons, and cash, and renewed commitments to regional cooperation. The operation, which took place on September 25, was a coordinated effort to target violent crime in Jefferson County and surrounding areas.

Multi-Agency Operation Targets Violent Crime

180 officers from various agencies participated in the operation, including the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Birmingham Police Department, and several other local police departments, along with support from the U.S. Marshals Service and the FBI.

Sheriff Mark Pettway emphasized the success of the operation, noting that it brought together multiple law enforcement agencies with a common goal of curbing violent crime. According to authorities, the operation resulted in 86 arrests, 221 citations, and the issuance of 696 warrants.

Major Drug and Weapon Seizures

During the sweep, law enforcement seized significant quantities of illegal substances, including 59 grams of fentanyl and 142 grams of methamphetamine. Officers also recovered a Glock 9mm handgun and more than $21,000 in cash.
