Pumped-up relief: Birmingham gas prices down 5.1 cents, could fuel more savings ahead

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Drivers across Birmingham are seeing some relief at the pump. Average gasoline prices in the metro area have fallen 5.1 cents per gallon in the last week, now averaging $2.73 a gallon, according to GasBuddy’s latest survey of 550 stations.

Prices in Birmingham are 6.5 cents lower than a month ago and 9.4 cents lower than a year ago. The cheapest station in the city was selling gas for $2.48 per gallon Sunday, while the most expensive was $3.58, a difference of $1.10.

Statewide, Alabama’s average price sits at $2.71 per gallon, slightly below last week’s average. Drivers in Montgomery are paying about the same, while Huntsville’s average price is $2.67…
